Careers in Chemistry

Career Paths

After completing their BSc, MSc or PhD in Chemistry, our graduates pursue a variety of different paths. Many of them have been widely recruited into top ranking graduate programs across the country. Other graduates enter professional programs such as Education and Medicine. A large proportion of our graduates also enter the workforce directly in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, industrial and government jobs in the region. Brandon Logan

Employer: Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) – Government of Canada
Position: Food Processing Inspector

As part of the CFIA inspectorate, Brandon plays a role in verifying and supporting compliance with regulations that ensure the safety of Canada’s food supply, such as the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations.

Ted Abraham  
Position/ title: Associate Director, Specialty Medicine at Merck Canada.

Description:  Leading the strategic direction of the Medical Affairs team in cardiovascular and respiratory medicine. Responsible for creating and executing the country medical affairs plan directing the scientific narrative, data generation activities and medical education plans. Collaborating cross-functionally as medical lead and subject matter expert with stakeholders across medical affairs, regulatory affairs, market access, policy & government affairs, and sales & marketing.

Trevor McGrath  
Position/ title: Abdominal Radiologist at  the QEII Health Sciences Centre and Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University
Description: Dr. Trevor McGrath is an Assistant Professor in Diagnostic Radiology at Dalhousie University. He is a staff radiologist at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax with a subspecialty in abdominal imaging. Profile Picture

Kaitlyn Blatt-Janmaat  
Position/ title: Technical Officer - Natural Products at the National Research Council of Canada
Description: As a Technical Officer specializing in Natural Products Chemistry, Kaitlyn is a bit of a jack of all trades when it comes to lab work. Their group provides both analytical testing services and natural products technical expertise which supports a variety of diverse research projects, from toxicological testing to novel molecule isolation and characterization.
