Life at SMU
Being a student at SMU is so much more than just choosing a program! Here, you'll find opportunities to join student clubs that meet your interests, make friends through sports and events, get involved in causes you care about and have fun!
Check out our Instagram and TikTok accounts to see what day-to-day life is like on campus!

Saint Mary's has more than 45 student-led societies on campus, ranging from academic programs to cultural identities, environmental causes to shared interests! Join societies through the Students' Association (SMUSA) or start your own!

The Residence Life team hosts game nights, outings and fun events throughout the year to help ease your transition to living away from home. Committees for international and 2SLBTQIA+ students work to make residence a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Along with our varsity sports teams, SMU has a number of club sports and regular intramural sports. SMUfit offers group fitness classes at the gym and weekly skating in the Dauphinee Centre arena during winter. Our Outdoors Society loves to explore the beautiful parks and trails around Halifax!

Showcase your skills outside the classroom, like on our award-winning Model UN and Enactus social enterprise teams, or in leadership positions with SMUSA and the Student Success Centre. From business competitions to speech competitions, theatre productions, and undergraduate research, there are many ways to shine at SMU!

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people outside of your program and give back! Groups like SMUSA and the Community Food Room look for students to help out on campus. Attend the annual Volunteer Fair to learn about other opportunities on campus and within Halifax.
